Argumentation as a cognitive process
W dniach 15-17 maja 2008 roku na Uniwersytecie Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu odbędzie się międzynarodowa konferencja naukowa Argumentation as a cognitive process. Konferencja ma charakter interdyscyplinarny o profilu kognitywistycznym. Zaproszenia do wygłoszenia wykładów gościnnych przyjęli wybitni specjaliści krajowi i zagraniczni, tacy jak:

9th Szklarska Poręba Workshop on the Roots of Pragmasemantics February 21—25, 2008
This is to announce the ninth installment of the workshop that takes linguists and experimental philosophers to the ski slopes. It will be held February 21—25 2008, on the mountaintop Szrenica, Poland (the same location as every year).
We invite authors to submit a one-page abstract to Jakub Szymanik before January 1st, for a talk of between 30 and 45 minutes (including discussion). Authors will be notified of acceptance by January 15th. Very welcome would also be proposals for the non-scientific programme, preferably to Marc Staudacher. (See below for email addresses.)

Warsaw Workshop on Music and The Brain
W dniach 21-22 czerwca 2007 w Warszawie odbędzie się konferencja pt. Warsaw Workshop on Music and The Brain poświęcona relacjom między muzyką a mózgiem.
W ramach konferencji wykład pt. Kiedy mózg nie stroi, który będzie skierowany do szerokiej publiczności wygłosi prof. Isabelle Peretz (Uniwersytet w Montrealu, Kanada). Wykład będzie tłumaczony na język polski. Udział w konferencji jest całkowicie darmowy dla osób poniżej stopnia doktora.

Fifty Years of Generalized Quantifiers Conference
In 1957 Andrzej Mostowski published his paper introducing the notion of generalized quantifier. Later on wide area of logical research was opened and many papers devoted to generalized quantifiers were published. The main purpose of the meeting is to summarize actual knowledge on this subject. The conference will be held in Banach Center, Warsaw, Poland, from June 28 to July 1 2007.
We are planning to edit a book containing contributed talks. This book would be a new addition to the sequence of books on generalized quantifiers which started with the volume Model-theoretic logics, edited by Barwise and Feferman in 1985, and continued with the two volume book Quantifiers, models and computation edited by M. Krynicki, M. Mostowski and L. Szczerba in 1995, and with Generalized quantifiers and computation edited by J.Väänänen in 1999. The new book would give a perspective of 2007 to generalized quantifiers, fifty years after the original article.

Ron Chrisley — wystąpienie w Warszawie
20 listopada 2006 w Instytucie Filozofii i Socjologii PAN Ron Chrisley z University of Sussex wystąpi z odczytem pt. Model-theoretic semantics for bivalent, realist logics that reject the law of the excluded middle. Poniżej krótkie streszczenie jego wystąpienia:
Conventional wisdom has it that rejecting the law of excluded middle is part of a package that also includes rejecting bivalence and embracing semantic anti-realism. I wish to consider a model-theoretic semantics for first order predicate logic that rejects the classical semantic axiom for negation ("not-S is true in M iff it is not the case that S is true in M"), but supports both bivalence and semantic realism. That is, for all models M and all sentences S it is the case that either S is true in M or S is false in M; and it does not follow from the definition of truth in a model that if S is true in M then there must be a proof of S in M. If there is time, I will give some possible applications of this logic (e.g., as a way of steering a middle course between Fregean and Russellian accounts of empty singular terms). As logic is not my area of specialization, I am especially open to criticism and suggestions.

W dniach 23-27 lutego 2007 roku po raz ósmy odbędą się organizowane przy udziale ILLC UvA na szczycie Szrenicy warszaty lingwistyczne pod nazwą "The Roots of Pragmasemantics".
